Neurosurgical Nursing Staff

Senior Charge Nurse

Karen Kose is our senior charge nurse in charge of neurosurgery. She is supported by three charge nurses.

One of the many roles of the senior charge nurse is to ensure that the patient experience and journey within Ward 23B is of the highest quality. This is achieved through working together with patients and their families, directing the culture of the nursing staff, and working in collaboration with medical and allied health professionals.

Advanced Practitioners

Advanced Practitioners (AP) from the nursing (ANP) and physiotherapy professions work as part of the multidisciplinary team. Currently we have two AP and two trainee ANPs in the department. They each fulfil clinical roles and are integrated into the nursing and medical team to help manage and lead pre and post neurosurgical patient care, help to develop patient care and improvement initiatives, as well as leading research and education for the department and for Neurosurgery at a national level.

The APs work as part of the registrar medical rota, handling the emergency on-call service during working hours, working in outpatient clinics, undertaking telephone clinics and patient triage and care for patients admitted for both elective and emergency care in Ward 23b and HDU, this support also extends to other parts NHS Tayside, when required.

The APs complement and augment care offered by nursing and medical staff, actively addressing issues that impact on the care pathway and enhancing the responsiveness and efficiency of care provision as well as the overall quality of patient care.

Ward Nurses

We have a dedicated team of experienced neurosurgical staff nurses who care for patients admitted to the High Dependency Unit and the Neurosurgical Ward. They are supported by caring and experienced health care assistants.
